FAQs

What is the difference between a verified an non-verified member?

Both verified and standard members have the same access to Helping Homestead and are viewable by all other members. Verified members have a “Verified” badge attached to their profile to signify to other members that they have passed a background check.

How often do you have to pay for the verified membership?

A verified membership is a one time fee of $9.99. You do not need to pay this fee again unless you wish for the “date verified” to be updated in order to reflect a more recent background check to other members. Otherwise, your verified badge will remain in place unless you fail an updated background check.

What will cause someone to fail a background check?

Members will have failed a background check and be denied verified membership if they are found with any of the following in any states they have resided in in the past 5 years: Involved as a defendant in any active criminal court cases/rulings. Any criminal charge, including but not limited to felonies, misdemeanors, disorderly conduct, etc. Being registered as a sex offender Any active court orders related to domestic or sexual violence If you have failed a background check and believe this to be in error, please contact us to request a review free of charge.

What is a Verified Membership?

If a member (helper or homesteader) is verified, that means that as of the date listed, they have passed a state background check in any state they have listed as a residence in the past 5 years. The cost for a verified membership is a one time fee of $9.99.

Do I need to be 18 or older to join?

Yes, we do require an age of 18 or older for safety purposes.

I don’t have much experience but want to be a helper, can I still apply for jobs?

Absolutely! Be transparent about your experience and why you’re passionate to learn. Many homesteaders are willing to show you the ropes during an onsite visit.

What if there are certain animals I don’t want to care for?

No problem. Include that in your bio or resume and be sure to check job listings for what animals they need care for.

Is it safe to hire someone/accept a job on helpinghomestead.com?

We connect individual entrepreneurs to community members who need temporary or permanent help caring for their homesteads or farms and don’t endorse members. We strongly recommend virtual and in person tours and interviews so that you can use your best judgment before hiring a helper or accepting a job. Learn more about our safety and security tips.

Do you complete background checks of members?

At this time, we do not provide background checks. You may ask a prospective helper or homesteader to complete a background check but it will be at your or their expense. We hope to add this feature as we continue to grow!

Can I get a refund for my verified membership?

The cost for a verified membership covers the running of a background check. If you decide within 24 hours of your application that you no longer wish to complete a background check and contact us within that time period, we can cancel your request and refund your payment. Otherwise it is non-refundable. This also includes if you do not pass the background check - your payment will not be refunded despite not being granted a verified membership as the cost was put towards running the background check.
