Safety Tips

Hiring a Helper

  • Check for thorough resumes and consistency between the helper’s profile and posted resume.
  • Chat with the helper over email and/or online video chat before providing an address or phone number.
  • Ask for references or verifiable experience.
  • Interview the helper in person or offer an onsite training where you can show them around and teach them what they will need to complete for the job
  • Once you’ve decided to hire the helper, we recommend exchanging contact methods that could allow you to reach each other in an emergency.
  • We recommend checking in with your helper throughout the duration of the job - ask for updates and photos if needed.
  • If at anytime you believe the helper is falsifying information, is ill-intended, or acting otherwise inappropriately, cease contact with them and report them by selecting report on their profile page.

Applying to a Listing

  • Carefully review the description of the listing and check for consistency throughout their profile.
  • Chat with the homesteader over email and/or online video chat before providing an address or phone number.
  • Let a friend or family member know when and where you will be if you attend an onsite training/interview.
  • Once you’ve accepted a job, we recommend exchanging contact methods that could allow you to reach each other in an emergency.
  • Check in with the owner throughout the job by sending updates and photographs. Ask questions if you have them!
  • If at anytime you believe the homesteader is falsifying information, is ill-intended, or acting otherwise inappropriately, cease contact with them and report them by selecting report on their profile page.
